Why did we stop using commercial plastic sponges?

Did you know the traditional sponge you use to wash your dishes every day contains microplastics? The green bits are made from materials like polyester and nylon that fall off on almost every wash, washing straight down our drains into our water systems. These microplastics then stay in the ocean forever, being digested by marine life. And sometimes you can find the green bits lurking in our cleaned pots and dishware, ending up in our food.
