Reticulated foam is a marvelous understructure for your puppet. It holds up better than upholstery foam and is wonderfully breathable. It's lightweight, springy, and can be easily cut, carved or shaped into round forms. The porous nature of the foam makes gluing it easier and way less messy. And, the natural color allows for easy dyeing so you can use it as it, or cover it with fleece or fur.
